Homelessness services are now managed by our housing provider, Rochdale Boroughwide Housing. The council still runs emergency out of hours services.
Changes to the Homelessness Services
The following services have transferred to Rochdale Boroughwide Housing:
- The Homeless Assessment Team.
- Management of Leopold Court and Great Howarth hostels plus the dispersed hostel service.
- Management of the Roch Vale Travellers site.
The service has been transferred on a 10-year contract with a review after 5 years and is to be fully-funded through rental income from the hostels and travellers site together with a financial payment from the council. It will not be funded out of the rents paid by RBH tenants. The transfer will bring a range of benefits to Rochdale Boroughwide Housing. As Rochdale Boroughwide Housing owns the majority of the borough’s social housing and manages HomeChoice, this is an opportunity to provide an improved housing options service and make the best use of Rochdale Boroughwide Housing.
How can I help homeless people in Rochdale borough?
If you'd like to help people you see living on the streets, we recommend giving to local charity campaign Real Change Rochdale.
Real Change Rochdale has been set up to raise funds to directly support people in the local area experiencing homelessness.
It uses the funds generated to pay for practical items which directly help people to move off the streets or avoid homelessness, like:
- A deposit for a home.
- Essential household items.
- A training course.
- Shoes or clothes for a job interview.
