Healthy children from reception to year 7 are being offered the nasal spray vaccination as part of the school flu vaccination programme. Parents must complete their child’s consent form and return it to school.
Flu can be unpleasant but if you are otherwise a healthy person it will usually clear up on its own within a week.
Who is eligible for a flu jab?
Flu can be more severe for certain people and can cause them serious complications. If you're in any of the following groups you're eligible for a FREE annual flu jab from the NHS:
- Healthy children aged 2, 3 or 4 years old.
- Healthy children in school years reception, 1, 2, 3 and 4 (these are mostly arranged by the schools).
- People aged 65 or over.
- People aged 6 months to 65 years old with long-term health conditions for heart problems, chest complaints, diabetes, or learning disabilities.
- Pregnant women.
- Carers.
- People living in a residential or nursing homes.
- Frontline health and social care workers who provide direct care to vulnerable people (identification which shows your name and registered care or nursing home, or registered domiciliary care provider employer must be provided).
How to book your flu jab
To book your flu jab you should contact your GP, midwife or a local pharmacy offering the service.
