Bank holiday changes and opening hours

Council offices and libraries are closed on bank holidays, although you can access online services on this website 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our Contact Centre will remain open for emergency calls only.

Bank holidays

Bank holidays in England and Wales. If a bank holiday is on a weekend, a 'substitute' weekday becomes a bank holiday, which is normally the following Monday.

Our Contact Centre will be open for emergency calls only over the bank holiday period.

Bin collections over the bank holiday

There are no changes to bin collections on bank holidays, except over Christmas and New Year.

Your bins will be collected on the same day as usual over bank holidays, Easter and Good Friday.

If you don't know which day your bin is normally collected, you can check by using our bin collection calendar. Please remember to put your bin out by 7am as normal. 

Household waste and recycling centres

The 2 Rochdale household recycling centres (rubbish tips) are open every day of the year including on bank holidays except for Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

Libraries and customer services

Libraries and customer services will be closed on bank holidays, although libraries will be open the weekends before and after.

Housing Benefit payments over the bank holiday

BACS payments and cheques due on bank holidays will be paid a day early. 

There are no other changes to Housing Benefit payments.

Link4Life - leisure facilities

Link4Life is a Cultural Trust set up by Rochdale Borough Council to deliver leisure and cultural services in the borough.

Some Link4Life leisure facilities remain open on bank holiday and all services only close on Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

If you're wanting to relax on a budget, there are several things you can do which are FREE or low cost. Enjoy the countryside, take part in an event or visit one of our libraries and use our FREE Wifi or borrow a book.
