Good Guy Scheme

We run a ‘Good Guy Scheme’ in the borough every year. It encourages retailers to be more responsible in the lead up to Bonfire Night and publicises the responsible retailers you can buy fireworks from.

We work in partnership with Greater Manchester Police and the Fire Service and participating traders following a code of conduct that prevents firework nuisance.

How do you become a member?

It's easy to join the scheme:

  • We carry out an inspection of your premises.
  • We advise the owner or manager of their legal obligations.
  • You agree to abide by the terms and conditions of the scheme.
  • You can then display a good guy poster on your premises and your name is included in the list of members we publish in the local press.

If you're interested in joining the scheme, please get in touch using the contact details on this page.

Support for the Good Guy Scheme

The Good Guy Scheme is supported by the Safe4Autumn Treacle campaign, a Greater Manchester initiative that works directly with local people to identify problems associated with this time of year. Partnership operations include high visibility policing, issuing fixed penalty notices, confiscation of alcohol, test purchasing, visits to firework retailers and education through school and community visits.
